Marcia Clark, the lead prosecuting attorney in the O.J. Simpson trial, will speak Sept. 12 at a private reception for professional and corporate women at the inaugural meeting of a new group, Women For Achievement.
The afternoon reception, which will be held at the Chicago law offices of Hinshaw & Culbertson, is intended to bring together women interested in forming a network for the advancement of women in the workplace through mentoring and scholarships, says Katherine Dedrick, a partner at the firm.
“We’re trying to create a forum for professional and corporate women not only to network but to hear speakers on subjects of interest to them,” says Dedrick.
“I also believe there’s an interest among women about getting involved in philanthropy,” says Dedrick, whose initiative created the organization.
In connection with the program, Hinshaw & Culbertson is creating a Women For Achievement High School Scholarship Fund, which will be awarded annually to one college-bound woman from the senior class of a Chicago-area high school, she says.
Clark’s remarks will draw from her experience in the work force and what she’s gone through from her perspective as a woman, says Dedrick.
