Trying to head off a potential space crunch for a consistently growing number of students, Libertyville High School District President Laurie Meyer has announced that a committee will be formed to study the possibility of a second campus.
The committee, which will be formed over the next two weeks, will study the projected construction and operating costs of a second high school. Although still in the planning stages, the school would either house two grade levels or operate as a four-year facility.
A second committee, headed by district Supt. Donald Gossett and board members Gary Franzen and Richard Friedenberg, will look into potential sites for the second campus.
Franzen said looking for a location without first listening to other recommendations is “premature,” but admitted something will have to be done in the near future.
“We are getting to a point where (overcrowding) may be a serious concern,” Franzen said.
