Downers Grove commissioners said Monday night that police may begin ticketing youngsters for maneuvering through the downtown area or local shopping centers on in-line skates.

As the sport has become more popular, police have received an increasing number of complaints from business owners, shoppers and commuters, officials said.

Youngsters skate at the Main Street railroad station and in downtown business areas, and they jump off the station’s benches, police said.

Under the proposal, anyone found in-line skating, roller skating or skateboarding in business districts will receive a $10 fine, said Deputy Police Chief John Davis.
