F. Gerald Farwell, 66, a retired steel industry executive, died Saturday in Hinsdale Hospital. A Chicago native, Mr. Farwell graduated from the University of Illinois in 1953, then worked as a salesman for Youngstown Sheet & Tube. After serving as district sales manager for Youngstown in Philadelphia, he became assistant vice president of sales for Usinor Steel. “He was an excellent adviser. He helped a lot of people along the way,” said his wife, Phyllis. Other survivors include a son, Steven Farwell; a daughter, Linda Gordon; two sisters; and two grandchildren. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in Elliston Funeral Home, 1st and Grant Streets, Hinsdale. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Union Church of Hinsdale, 137 S. Garfield Ave.
