I am grateful for the Tribune making “Glare on kids in pageants casts an unflattering light” a Page 1 story (Jan. 19).
It is truly pathetic that parents push children into these competitions that support the objectification and the exploitation of girls. What is even more shocking is parents justifying this by convincing themselves this gives their girls self-confidence and poise. How about climbing trees, playing organized sports, practicing spelling lists and math facts or taking your child to a museum–or just letting your kid be a kid?
Parents, grow up!
