Indiana Women’s Prison officials opened a children’s visiting center Wednesday, calling it the missing piece in their efforts to improve inmates’ parenting skills.
Decorated with couches, baby beds and sandboxes, the center is intended to be a more family-friendly facility than prison visiting rooms. Department of Correction spokeswoman Pam Pattison said officials hope the facility will give inmates a better chance to interact with their children. Only children are allowed in the center, no spouses.
