The management of Maywood Park and the harness horsemen reached a compromise in their purse dispute Wednesday, paving the way for the opening of the track’s spring meeting as scheduled Friday night.
The horsemen agreed to a graduated scale, starting with a minimum purse of $3,400 for the lowest level claiming horses. The plan is subject to review after a month.
During its meeting, Maywood will resume the Thursday, Friday and Saturday night dual-simulcasts with its sister track, Balmoral Park. Maywood also will race Tuesday and Wednesday nights while Balmoral will have Sunday and Monday cards.
Finish-lines: Hawthorne Race Course’s winter harness meeting will end Thursday with a day-night double-header and next-door Sportsman’s Park will begin the 1997 Chicago thoroughbred season Friday at 1 p.m.
