Algonquin Township is the first township in Illinois to begin a paint recycling project.
Township officials and Illinois Environmental Protection Agency representative Dan Rein signed an intergovernmental agreement to provide a no cost, no waste way for residents to dispose of leftover paint.
Beginning March 29, leftover latex and oil-base paint may be brought to the township office parking lot the last Saturday of each month. It will be sorted into five-gallon drums in batches of oil or latex, light or dark color.
Hank Fischer of the McHenry County Solid Waste Management Department will make paint chips to be used by his department in marketing the paint to county governmental agencies.
