Joan Beck’s recent column on the English-only debate was eloquent and convincing. But Professor Henry Higgins, alias G.B. Shaw, managed to put the whole debate into one simple line: “It’s ‘Aooow and ‘garn that keep her in her place, not her wretched clothes and dirty face.” All the rhetoric in the world will not help if we cannot speak to each other in one common language.
