Lemont is gearing up to conduct a special census this spring.
Officials suspect that the town’s population has grown to 10,750 residents. The last time a special census was conducted, in 1994, the population was counted at 9,586.
A population increase would mean the village would receive more state motor fuel tax revenue and state income tax funds. officials said that if an increase in population is verified, the village could receive another $116,400 per year.
