Barbara Fruin liked falling in love and getting married so much she did it five times by the time she was 29. Four times, she neglected to get divorced first.
“I just wanted to be loved,” she told the Birmingham Post recently, after pleading guilty to bigamy in Wolverhampton, England.
Fruin, now 31, married her stepfather, Frederick Sims, in 1983, police said. They never divorced, but she married Vincent Morrish in 1986.
In 1988, still married to Sims and Morrish, she married Stephen Nicholson. He divorced her in 1989, he said.
She married Adam Curtis, a navy man, in 1990. She soon ran up $13,000 in debts while he was at sea and disappeared.
She married another navy man, Andrew Grice, in 1994. She left him a year later.
Curtis heard that his wife had married Grice through a mutual friend, and they got in touch and notified police.
“She has ruined my life,” Curtis said.
