Have you renamed your paper the “Catholic Tribune” and just forgotten to tell us non-Catholic readers? As a Christian of another denomination, I certainly have nothing against the new leader of Chicago’s Roman Catholic community. But to devote more than 50 percent of the front section on April 9 to Archbishop Francis George’s arrival is simply excessive coverage, especially after your massive and repetitive coverage of Cardinal Bernardin’s illness and death.
Many of us non-Catholics, and I suspect many Catholics as well, don’t really care about the picayune details concerning Archbishop George. Let the local Catholic churches and associations print that type of information in their bulletins and newsletters. Or at least limit the coverage to your weekly column on religion, where you relegate the news concerning the rest of Chicagoland’s religious communities.
You would better serve your readers if you devoted your paper to covering news of applicability and interest to the entire Chicagoland population, rather than catering to one specific group.
