A former Frankfort police officer pleaded guilty Tuesday to having sex with two 16-year-old girls who were enrolled in a local police cadet program.

Edward Delia, 32, of Frankfort negotiated a plea of guilty to two charges of aggravated criminal sexual abuse and one count of official misconduct, said Will County State’s Atty. James Glasgow. He was sentenced to 6 months in jail and 30 months’ probation by Will County Associate Judge Gerald Kinney.

Delia also was ordered to pay for counseling for the two girls and to undergo counseling himself, Glasgow said. He must register as a sex offender in his community.

According to the November 1996 indictment, from Dec. 25, 1995, to Jan. 31, 1996, Delia, who is married, had sexual intercourse with the girls while he was on duty. At the time, the teens were under Delia’s supervision as part of the Frankfort Police Department’s Explorer program.

Delia resigned from the police department in February.
