LaVaughn M. Ross, 88, the 1963 foster mother of the year of Lake County, died Thursday in her home in Mundelein. Mrs. Ross, who won the award at age 55, was chosen by the Cook County Department of Public Aid. The award was presented to Mrs. Ross by Seymour Simon, president of the Cook County Board of Commissioners. “She was a wonderful housewife,” said granddaughter Sabra Ross. “My grandfather always says the reason he is 93 years old is because she never missed a meal. She was a great cook.” Mrs. Ross is survived by her husband, William; three daughters, Barbara Land, Dorothy Stevens and Linda Kern; a sister; 11 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday in McMurrough Chapel, 101 Park Place, Libertyville.
