After 80 years sealed in a library cornerstone, a time capsule interred during World War I was opened to reveal its contents.
“This has been a blessing for the people of Noble County who have any interest in history,” said Ernest Leatherman, who was born four years after the capsule was sealed.
At an open house Saturday, the Noble County Public Library unveiled the contents of a copper time capsule placed inside the cornerstone of the old Carnegie library on June 14, 1917.
The contents of the 4-inch-by-4-inch, tarnished box included two newspapers from the week the capsule was placed with headlines “General Pershing in England,” and “Men Register for Conscription.”
Leatherman said, “When I was young, in Albion there were no stop lights or stop signs. You could just drive around the courthouse.”
