A good brownie recipe is timeless. This recipe, which uses pecans, is as mouthwatering today as when it was first printed, on Feb. 15, 1939.
PECAN BROWNIES
Preparation time: 20 minutes
Cooking time: 30 minutes
Yield: 16 brownies
1/3 cup butter, softened or vegetable shortening
1 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
2 eggs
2 squares unsweetened chocolate, melted
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
2/3 cup all-purpose flour, sifted
1/3 cup chopped pecans
1. Heat oven to 350 degrees. Cream butter, sugar and salt in mixing bowl on medium speed. Beat in eggs, one at a time. Add melted chocolate and vanilla. Beat until smooth. Add sifted flour and nuts, stir until blended. Spread into greased 8- by 8-inch baking pan.
2. Bake until set, 30 minutes. Cool; cut into squares.
