McDonald’s Corp. said it will open restaurants in Pakistan by the end of 1998 in a move to generate business in a country with a growing middle class and a population of more than 140 million. The menu will include the traditional hamburgers, chicken and fries, with the specification that the beef and chicken be prepared according to halal, the Muslim law that prescribes the manner in which animals can be killed. A majority of the supplies will be procured in Pakistan, the company said. McDonald’s has restaurants in more than 100 countries.
