A good hate

OK, they might not be the Knicks, but the Miami Heat show up with gimme villain Pat Riley as coach and wonderful fan target Alonzo Mourning, a power forward masquerading as a center, and either way, a volatile guy.

Playoff basketball, indeed

“(Mourning) has had a history against the Chicago Bulls that has been checkered in the past,” Phil Jackson said, finding a diplomatic way to avoid the word “whiner.” “I think the fans here have signified that. They’ll always stand up and boo him because of his statements in the past few years that everytime it’s Chicago and favoritism shown to Chicago.”

You mean a guy who stands in the middle of Madison Square Garden and lets loose with a string of expletives shouldn’t get the calls?

Have a seat

It’s a big number, but not as big as last year if you want to buy someone else’s Bulls tickets without pounding Madison Street.

“I’d say that double the number of season ticket holders are selling,” said Dan Hennessy of Who Needs Two ticket service in Northbrook, “so it makes prices reasonable–for the Eastern Conference finals.”

Standing room tickets with a face value of $30 were going for $65, Hennessy said. Upper-level seats with a face of $30-45 were going for $100-250, while lower-bowl tickets with a face of $75-$90 were starting at $350.

Yeah, that’s stiff, but upper-level seats cost $50 more last year, while lower level tickets started at $100 more.

But those tickets were for Orlando and that Shaq guy, not Miami and that Mourning guy.

“If New York wins that game on Sunday (against Miami),” Hennessy said, “we’re all in a lot better shape. I’ve never been a Knicks fan, but I was then.”
