Oops! The Tribune article (Main news, June 29) on academic problems at Von Humboldt Elementary School includes a picture (page 14) of an aide putting up a sign that says: “READING AND MATH IS THE KEY TO SUCCESS.”

Surely the educators at Von Humboldt realize that a plural subject (“reading and math”) requires a plural verb (not “is”). They might consider changing the sign to read: “READING AND MATH ARE THE KEYS TO SUCCESS.”

The article discusses several theories about why Von Humboldt students don’t perform well on tests. Makes you think, doesn’t it?
