Hoffman Estates plan commission members expressed concerns recently about a proposal by Marriott International to build an assisted living center for senior citizens on 2.6 acres on Golf Road between Barrington Road and Moon Lake Boulevard.

The proposal calls for a three-story building with 96 beds. Twenty-four would be designated as special-care beds for residents with mild Alzheimer’s disease.

The facility is not eligible to receive a state license as a nursing home because it has too many beds, said Marriott representatives.

Plan Commission Chairman Carl Adrianopoli questioned Marriott representatives on the cost per resident, estimated by the company at $3,000 per month per bed.

Adrianopoli said the cost per bed seemed high for a facility that would not be a licensed nursing home. He said that if the residents became ill, they would probably have to go someplace else.
