The village has begun charging developers $50 for the landscape inspection required for an occupancy permit.
A landscape inspection is necessary to ensure that a developer has planted the proper trees, shrubs and sod in front of a house.
“It’s fairly intense,” Mayor Frank Loffredo said of the inspection. “We expect trees with every house. We expect various types.”
The village’s building inspector had performed the inspections, but recently, the village began contracting the work out to the Mundelein firm of Lane Kendig Inc.
The new fee covers the cost of paying the firm, Loffredo said.
The Village Board approved the fee at last week’s meeting. If a house doesn’t pass its landscape inspection the first time, the village will charge the developer $35 for each subsequent visit.
Although a landscape inspection is a prerequisite for an occupancy permit, the village will issue a temporary permit for houses that are finished during the winter, Loffredo said.
