The Mundelein Police Department on Monday will play host to a “Flashlight Walk” as a kickoff for Tuesday’s National Night Out.

More than 9,000 U.S. communities are expected to take part in the 14th annual National Night Out, which is designed to heighten awareness about crime and strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships. Neighborhood leaders are asked to sponsor block parties, cookouts, parades, youth activities and anti-drug rallies to celebrate National Night Out, which is sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch and local police departments. Monday’s flashlight walk is a planned march around the town square to promote community unity against crime. The first 300 participants will receive free T-shirts.
