Good eating, good cause: Oak Forest police and firefighters and their spouses served up more than 700 sausage sandwiches at July’s Oak Fest celebration to help raise $2,000 for the Dixie Adams Fund.
The food and soft drinks donated by local businesses were served by the 30 officers and their spouses, said Charlie Sopko of Oak Forest Firefighters Union Local 3039, who worked with representatives of the Oak Forest Policemen’s Association on the project.
The fund is helping Steve Adams of Oak Forest, who suffered burns trying to rescue his wife from their burning home June 15. Dixie Adams, a teacher in Oak Forest, died two days later. The couple have two young daughters. Donations are being accepted for the Dixie Adams Fund at the Hemlock Federal Bank for Savings, 5700 W. 159th St., Oak Forest.
