The Homer Township Board Monday night rejected a developer’s plan to build another 12-unit condominium building on his 159th Street property.

The condominium complex is located just west of Bell Road. John McIntyre, community development director, said the land is not zoned for multifamily development.

“On the land use plan, we show it as commercial,” he said. “It’s prime commercial.”

The developer already has constructed five other 12-unit condominium buildings on 5 acres of the property. The sixth building would have been built on another acre.

“There is already a lack of open space on that property,” McIntyre said. Some of the condominium buildings are already occupied; others are under construction.

The developer’s request to build those units was rejected by the township and by Will County. But the developer went to court and got approval to build them.

McIntyre said the condominiums are near an industrial park.
