Why can’t something be done to cut down on the paperwork connected with Medicare? My husband had to go to a hospital emergency room some time ago for a dog bite, and the bills and paperwork were horrendous.

Why does a patient have to get separate bills from the emergency room doctor, X-ray doctor, regular attending physician assigned to the case and the hospital itself? Couldn’t these people submit their bills to the hospital billing office and have it submit one consolidated bill to Medicare at the end of treatment? With all these people submitting separate bills, I’m surprised patients don’t get separate bills from the nurses, cleaning personnel and any other people on the hospital staff who come in contact with them.
