Midwest factory hum slows: Manufacturing activity in the Midwest fell in June for the second month in a row, declining 0.1 percent as steel production fell for the first time in seven months, the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago reported. The Midwest Manufacturing Index fell to 121.1 in June. In May, the index fell a revised 0.4 percent, the Chicago Fed said. In contrast, the Federal Reserve’s national industrial production index, which measures manufacturing activity on a national level, rose 0.3 percent to 121.7 from a revised 121.3 in May.
