A man convicted of killing two people during a Berwyn jewelry store robbery in 1980 was given a November execution date on Wednesday.

Walter Stewart is scheduled to be executed by lethal injection on Nov. 19, said John Madigan, a spokesman for the Illinois Supreme Court.

In July 1980, Stewart pleaded guilty to killing two bystanders, Danilo Rodica of Chicago and Thomas Pavlopoulos of Westchester, and wounding a jewelry store owner during a robbery of the store. Stewart was sentenced to death by a judge after he waived his right to a jury hearing on sentencing.

Criminal Court Chief Judge Thomas Fitzgerald in March dismissed a lawsuit that sought to overturn Stewart’s conviction based on the argument that the Illinois Supreme Court has been illegally constituted for two decades.
