A Will County judge next week will hear arguments in the battle between Joliet Township High School District 204 and Jackson Township parents seeking to leave the district.

On Monday, Will County Circuit Judge William Penn will be asked to reduce the Joliet district’s two-count appeal of the Will County Regional Board of Education’s March decision to allow the parents to detach from the district and join Lincoln-Way High School District 210.

Because Joliet’s appeal is pending, the Jackson Township students, whose parents have Elwood or Manhattan mailing addresses, must attend Joliet Central this year.

One count of the appeal challenges the constitutionality of a law the parents used for detachment. Norma Guess, the parents’ attorney, wants to remove that count because she said a law prohibits school districts from challenging legislative decisions.
