The fall season doesn’t officially start until Sept. 22, but that won’t stop CBS from rolling out new shows before then. The network said yesterday it will premiere parts of its Monday-night lineup on Sept. 15 and its family-oriented block on Sept. 19.
Despite the early launches for some CBS shows, its eagerly awaited newsmagazine “Public Eye With Bryant Gumbel” won’t debut until Oct. 1.
CBS is jumping the gun a bit in order to take advantage of its Sept. 14 telecast of the prime-time Emmy Awards, which it will use to promote the new season.
On Sept. 15 the network will air the season premieres of “Cosby” and “Cybill” along with the series debuts of “George & Leo,” “The Gregory Hines Show” and “Michael Hayes,” a new drama starring David Caruso (“NYPD Blue”).
“Hines” and “Hayes” will both be airing out of their normal time periods.
Following the Sept. 15 debut, “Hines” will move to Fridays at 9 p.m. and “Hayes” will air Tuesdays at 9 p.m. The remainder of CBS’ lineup will debut the week of Sept. 22.
NBC has said it will wait until the week of Sept. 22 to premiere its shows, with some debuts postponed until October to accommodate coverage of the baseball playoffs.
ABC has yet to reveal its schedule, while Fox will start airing new shows on Saturday, Sept. 6.
