The Woodridge Village Board voted Thursday night in favor of a resolution supporting the proposed Interstate Highway 355 extension from Interstate Highway 55 to Interstate Highway 80.

Village officials said they support the extension because it would result in economic development and in transportation benefits for communities throughout the proposed I-355 corridor.

In particular, the village has seen corporations, such as Zenith Corp., opting to build facilities in Internationale Centre, in part because it is located near the proposed extension.

The resolution calls for completion of the project at the earliest possible opportunity.

The first extension has been put on hold by a court order pending the completion of environmental studies. A second extension has been proposed for west of I-80.

Citing increased development, pollution and other issues, some citizens groups in Will County, such as the South Corridor Against the Tollroad, have opposed the proposed road.
