Your financial analysts may criticize Montgomery Ward & Co. management all they want for the troubles of that company. But what does this and the demise of Wieboldt’s, Goldblatt’s and hundreds of smaller stores have to say about the freedom with which discount predators can enter the Chicago market with large numbers of stores and wipe out the competition?
It’s a jungle out there. Is this what we want, even if we do save a few dollars? All I can say is that I’ll be sorry to see our local Wards store close, if that’s what it comes to.
