The sad story of Amanda Wallace’s prison suicide, headlined “Life ends, legacy endures,” by Flynn McRoberts and Suzy Frisch (Page 1, Aug. 4), was written with great sensitivity. Impressive writing.
What more tragic story can there be than when a mother kills her child? The society and its laws retaliate with a prison sentence to a mother, in this case one obviously in dire need of treatment and help. My prayers are with the mother lost by suicide; the baby, Joseph; the surviving sibling and others who were aware of the situation and could not do more. Our society is in desperate need of responding with more understanding to inhumane deeds. Cruel retaliation with imprisonment only serves to dehumanize our society. I pray for compassion.
This article has the effect of encouraging our government and the public to move toward a more compassionate approach to needs in our society for which we are all responsible. Thanks for highlighting this story.
