The City Council has renewed its support for construction of the proposed Interstate Highway 355 extension through Will County near the city’s eastern border.

Aldermen voted 7-0 last week for a resolution supporting the project. The council now has approved such a resolution “numerous times” over the years, said Mayor Frank Mitchell.

Lockport joins Joliet, Lemont and New Lenox in passing resolutions in recent weeks in favor of the project, which calls for extending the road from Interstate Highway 55 at Bolingbrook to Interstate Highway 80 at New Lenox.
