The Gentry Ridge development recently approved by the Village of Cary, under questionable legal circumstances, is a disaster from so many angles that it is hard to know where to begin.
Do we start with the outrage of a land rape of horrendous proportions? It is difficult to watch bulldozers eating stands of old trees in three minutes flat. It wrenches the soul to watch wildlife trying to find a safe place to nurse and shelter their young. This area is about all that is left of our natural heritage on the Fox River.
How can Cary officials be so uncaring in sacrificing our one unique piece of exquisite natural beauty for 300 more houses? We resent the fact that traffic is already at an almost unbearable level. It has taken us up to five minutes just to pull out onto Cary-Algonquin Road. I ask the drivers from the 1,500-plus households with at least two vehicles each how they will feel about the addition of at least 600 more cars on this road, our only access to the world.
Studies show that every four-bedroom, single-family home generates an additional 10 road trips per day. Gentry Ridge will promise at least 3,000 more road trips on Cary-Algonquin Road every day. Who pays for road-widening, maintenance, stoplights and signs, etc? It certainly won’t be the developer. More traffic equals more taxes.
The most important factor is the safety of the kids as they skate, jog, ride their bikes on the road to the convenience store, school, community center, etc. It’s a miracle none has been killed to date. So please, village officials, consider all of the people who live along this road.
