Ashton White homered and drove in six runs Thursday as Mission Viejo, Calif., advanced to the championship game of the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa., with a 12-1 victory over Bradenton, Fla. Guadalupe, Mexico, beat Yokohama, Japan, 1-0 in Thursday’s international bracket final to gain the other spot in Saturday’s championship game. White, son of 1979 Heisman Trophy winner Charles White of USC, also was the winning pitcher, allowing just two hits.
Hockey: The condition of Detroit Red Wings defenseman Vladimir Konstantinov and team masseur Sergei Mnatsakanov, injured in a June accident, was upgraded from fair to good. They remain in the rehabilitation unit of William Beaumont Hospital in Royal Oak, Mich.
– Tie Domi, considered one of the top enforcers in the NHL, signed a five-year, $7.2 million deal with the Maple Leafs.
– The New York Rangers agreed to contract terms with Swedish forward Johan Lindbom, the team’s fifth draft pick, who had 44 goals in 149 games in Sweden.
Basketball: Portland Trail Blazers guard Isaiah Rider pleaded no contest in a California court to a misdemeanor charge of possessing four illegal cellular phones. He was placed on 18 months probation and ordered to perform 100 hours of community service.
– The Denver Nuggets acquired small forward Eric Williams from Boston for two second-round draft choices. Williams started 67 games for the Celtics last year and averaged 15 points and 4.6 rebounds.
– The Seattle SuperSonics signed swingman David Wingate, 33, to a one-year contract.
– Janice Braxton’s free throw with less than a second left in Houston gave the Cleveland Rockers a 76-75 WNBA victory over the Houston Comets. . . . Vicky Bullett and Andrea Stinson each scored 14 points to lead Charlotte to a 66-56 victory over the Utah Starzz in Salt Lake City.
– Georgetown guard Ed Sheffey was arrested on several misdemeanor charges including resisting arrest and possession of marijuana after Maryland police said his car was clocked at more than 90 miles an hour.
