Chicago public school students will make a little history this week, whether they like it or not. When the school bell rings Thursday, it will mark the first time in the history of the city’s public school system that school started before Labor Day.
School officials point out that summer vacation next year will start earlier, too. In fact, that’s the whole idea–getting to release Chicago’s kids so that they can compete for summer jobs with suburban kids who have such a schedule.
