Donald O. Brown, 69, a former pickle broker and North Shore resident, died Wednesday in Shore Memorial Hospital in Nassawadox, Va. Mr. Brown was born in Evanston and lived most of his life in Glencoe, Northfield and Deerfield. He moved to Belle Haven, Va., four years ago. After serving in the Air Force, Mr. Brown worked at his family’s Chicago business, Squire Dingee Co., which manufactured pickles and preserves under the Ma Brown Pickles label. In 1960, Mr. Brown founded Brown Brokerage Co., a pickle brokerage business, in Winnetka. He was president until retiring in 1993. While in the Chicago area, Mr. Brown was involved in the Evangelical Congregational Church in Highland Park, the Chicago Curling Club in Northbrook and Pickle Packers International in St. Charles. Mr. Brown is survived by his wife, Ina; three daughters, Linda, Diana Dean and Catherine Dougherty; a brother; two stepdaughters; one stepson; six grandchildren; and six step-grandchildren. Services were held Friday in Virginia.
