Edith M. Roovaart, 100, of Des Plaines, formerly of Chicago, died Friday at The Moorings in Arlington Heights. Mrs. Roovaart worked at Swift & Co. and then became a personal secretary to the commanding officer of the U.S. Fifth Army headquarters in Chicago, until her retirement in 1970. She enjoyed gardening and playing bridge as part of a bridge club she joined while working at Swift. Mrs. Roovaart was an active member of the Golden Agers in Des Plaines. Survivors include two sons, Kenneth and Lawrence; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday in Oehler Funeral Home, 555 Lee St., Des Plaines. Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
