The Solid Waste Agency of Lake County is trying to identify areas throughout the county where they could collect hazardous household waste on a regular basis.

The program is a new push to expand collection of household waste, such as paints. Right now, residents can drop off the materials twice a year, said Andrew Quigley, executive director of the agency.

Under the new plan, the agency would provide a trailer that would travel the county to make collections on Saturdays between March and December.

Quigley said officials estimate that up to 9,000 people would participate in the program. Under the current method of drop-offs, 1,500 people participate, he said.
