There is a war going on between taxis and bicycles in this city. (Well, basically, between taxis and any other people who risk sharing the road with them.)

There are nearly 6,000 cabs in Chicago, and many of them jam the road with little regard for traffic laws or basic common courtesy. For bicyclists, this is a particularly dangerous state of affairs. There are no designated bike paths through many parts of the city, and if you want to get somewhere, you have to risk the roads.

Granted, there are some bicyclists who don’t know how or which traffic laws apply to them either, but they are due at least as much consideration as any other vehicle. It would be nice–and very utopian–if there were separate bike paths available, but because there are not, there must be more respect.

I believe that the standards for new cab drivers should be tightened. Greater supervision would improve the safety of our streets and would probably benefit the cab drivers as well by improving their public reputation.
