A local plumbing business was hoping to put on a customer appreciation show using fireworks, but has canceled the plan because Schaumburg airport officials will not approve it.
In a letter dated Aug. 14, a Chicago fireworks production company contacted the Roselle Fire Department requesting a fireworks permit for Sept. 6 for Fazio Plumbing, which is celebrating 10 years of business in the village.
The company was planning a 20-minute fireworks display using shells no larger than 3 inches.
Assistant Village Administrator John Coakley told village officials this week that he, along with Fire Inspector Jim Farrell and Community Development Director Pat Watkins, reviewed the issues.
“The airport basically thought it was a bad idea,” Fazio said. “They claim the airport is unmanned at night and lacks a control tower, plus they see the fireworks as being a safety hazard.”
