Plan Commission members Thursday night reviewed their latest draft of a proposed comprehensive plan, designed to prepare the village for future growth but maintain its rural and historical character.

In response to a proposed south suburban airport, the village retained a planning firm through a $40,000 grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation in 1995 to develop future land-use scenarios. One portrayed the evolution of the airport, and one did not include an airport, Village Administrator Jerry Ducay said.

The comprehensive framework includes an inventory of natural features such as waterways, wooded areas, lakes and wetlands; a transportation plan, including a local commuter rail station; two land-use plans; a water and sewer plan; and growth projections over the next 20 years.

The Plan Commission and the Village Board are expected to adopt the plan within the next few weeks.
