The Orland Park Village Board has agreed to hire an engineer to design a solution to the heavy flooding problem that affected the Westwood neighborhood last summer.
The action provides for Lindley & Sons Inc., of Hinsdale, to study topography of the land near 103rd Avenue and 146th Street and come up with such proposals as building berms, adding detention ponds, or changing the grade of Westwood Drive to reduce the flow of rain into homes. The firm will be paid $25,000 for its services. Last month, village officials approved a $50,000 engineering fee for Chris B. Burke Engineering Ltd. to plan flood-control work for three other areas hit hard by last year’s heavy rains.
Those plans are expected to feature the construction of a berm along the perimeter of Orland Square Pond at 151st Street and 92nd Avenue and the Villa West pond along Mill Creek at 135th Street and 86th Avenue.
