Irene Poremski, 80, a former nurse at Cook County Hospital, died Friday at Resurrection Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Park Ridge. Mrs. Poremski was born and raised on the North Side. She graduated from Holy Family Academy in Chicago during the 1930s and later attended nursing school at St. Mary of Nazareth Hospital Center in Chicago. Mrs. Poremski worked there for a few years and later at the Cook County hospital in the pediatric ward. She married during World War II and became a homemaker. She was an avid traveler and made several journeys to Europe, Africa, and Asia. Besides traveling, she loved to read and spend time with her family. She had lived in Niles since 1963. Survivors include a son, Tod; three daughters, Marcia Kellum, Mary Kay Leber, and Christine Dalal; 12 grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m. Monday at the Colonial-Wojciechowski Funeral Home, 8025 W. Golf Rd., Niles. Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Mass will be said at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Our Lady of Ransom Church, 8300 N. Greenwood Ave., Niles.
