Mildred L. Stauffer, an active member of First United Methodist Church of Glen Ellyn and a longtime resident of the western suburbs, died Saturday at Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove. She was 82. She began working in her father’s paint store as a teenager and worked almost her entire life in secretarial positions for several companies, said her daughter Patricia Miller. Mrs. Stauffer lived most of her life in the west suburbs, moving among Lombard, Downers Grove, Wheaton and Berwyn, Miller said. She last lived at the Lexington Retirement Center in Lombard. Besides her daughter, Mrs. Stauffer is survived by her husband, Rev. Eugene Stauffer; son William Frank Miller; daughter Wendy Neal; sisters Ruth Ann Kuchenbecker, Dorothy Birr and Catharine Rabe; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Knollcrest Funeral Home, 1500 S. Meyers Rd., in Lombard. Services will follow at 2 p.m.
