Prospect Heights’ first police chief, Robert B. Bonneville, will retire from his post on March 1, he told city officials this week.
Bonneville, 57, presided over the establishment in 1990 and growth of the city’s Police Department. The force now has 25 sworn officers and a new police station, he said.
“I’m leaving with mixed feelings,” he said Wednesday. “I’m looking forward to doing some different things, but it’s been a good eight years here, and I think the department is on a solid footing and is going to move forward.”
Bonneville said he and his wife plan to retire to a home they own in Neshkoro, Wis.
A police chief for 21 years, Bonneville served in the position in Glencoe before he was hired in Prospect Heights.
He announced his retirement in a letter presented at Tuesday night’s City Council meeting.
