St. Charles City Council members have approved annexation of a 3-acre parcel that is the site of a planned senior citizens living center.
Carriage Oaks of St. Charles, a not-for-profit organization, owns the land, which is north of Illinois Highway 38 and east of 14th Street, said Bob Hupp, St. Charles Planning and Development director.
Construction of the center probably will begin this fall and conclude in the spring, said Hupp.
“This gives (people) another option . . . for another type of housing,” he said.
The council also approved an ordinance granting the site a special use as a planned unit development. That allows the center to have 71 housing units and fewer than the usual number of parking spaces, Hupp said.
