In the summer of 1967, the center of the universe was 710 Ashbury in San Francisco. In the heart of the Haight Ashbury neighborhood, this was the home of the rock band, The Grateful Dead. This is where Jerry Garcia lived, and where stars like Janis Joplin and Jimmy Hendrix could be seen coming and going, as the flower children and the Summer of Love whirled around them.

Today–30 years since that crazy period, when hippies from around the globe converged on San Francisco–the famed house is on the auction block.

The Butterfield and Butterfield auction house will soon be taking bids on the four-bedroom Victorian. The minimum bid is $900,000, even though current owners Michael and Francine Felice bought it for $55,000 just 20 years ago.

The house will be bundled with other memorabilia in a special Butterfield and Buttlerfield “Summer of Love” auction. Other items being sold include a love letter from Joni Mitchell to David Crosby and a handwritten note from John Lennon and Yoko Ono to Black Panther leader Huey Newton.

For the house, pre-bidders must register through San Francisco realty agent Laura Taylor at Pacific Union.
