Still waiting for the mail: It would have been a wonderful life for Rich Bysina if the United States Post Office had issued a postage stamp in 1996 commemorating the 50th anniversary of “It’s a Wonderful Life.”

Since 1993, Bysina, administrator of the Winfield Chamber of Commerce, has been working for issuance of the stamp. He is showing the movie and displaying an oversized petition that seeks signatures supporting his effort at Winfield Good Old Days this weekend .

In 1993, the Post Office said Bysina’s proposal for the stamp was under consideration. Later, it was rejected.

“No one has my obsession with the stamp,” Bysina said. “I’m the only one going nuts with the idea, but sometimes it takes a screwball to get something done.”

Bysina says he’ll never give up: “This movie is one of the great American movies. It’s so good; it’s such a classic. It is our legacy into the next millennium.”
