Businessmen, developers, property owners and residents in Rogers Park are very much concerned with that neighborhood’s image. And certainly the education of our children is a basic consideration of any program we may undertake to make Rogers Park a destination community. That is why we are so concerned with the situation at Gale School, where, in recent months, political infighting by various factions to control the Local School Council has led to virtual chaos.
Leaders of at least one of these factions are not residents of the community, nor do they have children attending Gale, yet they are threatening to take over the council and thus to control hiring and recruitment of the staff. In so doing they are disruptive and acting without any legal basis.
That is why we commend Paul Vallas, schools executive officer, in his efforts to stop this infighting, which is disruptive and non-productive. We hope his efforts will resolve the situation once and for all through the formation of a democratically elected council, one that represents the best interests of the community.
